Leashing Children, A Disturbing Trend

Over the last year or two, I have noticed more parents who have their children tethered to a leash. I find this trend of treating children like pet animals to be very disturbing.

Is it just me?

Well the other day, I witnessed a very disturbing incident. A woman had a child 0n a leash and she also had a dog on a leash. Both the toddler and dog were following behind her. The child began to slow a bit and the woman kept pulling both leashes. The child fell and the woman, apparently thinking it was the dog that was not cooperating, continued to pull the leash while her toddler son’s bare knees dragged across the pavement.  By the time the child began screaming in pain, she had dragged this child about two feet. When she turned and realized what had happened, she picked him up. His knees appeared to be a bit bloody.

I know this woman did not mean to harm her child and I am certain she felt terrible once she realized her mistake and the pain she inflicted upon this child. But nonetheless, this child, because of neglect, was injured.

I hope any of you parents out there who may read this do not opt for a leash for your child. Your child is not a pet. He/She is not an ordinary animal. If you cannot control your child with proper discipline and training, then seek help to do so. Do not rely on something as barbaric as a leash for a human being.

Is it just me?
